Mechanical systems are often taught with simple line drawing diagrams in textbooks or just the screens from the building management systems. To better understand the design and operation of a building’s HVAC system, the goal of this project was to develop animations of how ventilation air moves through buildings. A team of undergraduates developed short visualizations to describe how air moves in and about a space for ventilation and thermal comfort. One team did a visualization of a campus classroom, the other did a visualization for an old house.
